Shannon Welcomes Aer Lingus Summer Service to Malaga

Shannon Airport has welcomed another significant addition to its 2014 schedule after Aer Lingus announced a new Malaga service to its summer destinations. The new service will see the airline fly from Shannon to the Costa del Sol’s busiest airport twice weekly, providing further connectivity for the West of Ireland to one of the most popular destinations for Irish holiday makers. Aer Lingus will also recommence its three-times weekly Faro service in April, which proved a success in its first summer this year.

The strengthening of its European sun services next year follows the commencement of the airline’s weekly Shannon – Lanzarote winter sun service, which will operate to the end of March.

The airline’s 2014 schedule will also see Aer Lingus almost double its frequencies on transatlantic routes from Shannon to New York and Boston, both of which will go daily next year. Transatlantic passengers will also benefit with access to up to 40 destinations in North America with ALT’s partner airline, Jetblue.

Neil Pakey, Chief Executive of Shannon Group plc, said: “We had an excellent summer this year in terms of new services and passenger growth and to be edging towards year end with yet another commitment for 2014 gives further confidence for the year ahead.

“Malaga is one of the most important destinations for holiday makers, servicing long-term favourites like Marbella, Benalmadena, Torremolinos and Fuengirola, as well as other emerging areas such as Estepona, Nerja, Mijas and many more. Malaga airport is the gateway to these hugely popular resorts so this new service will be very welcome indeed.

“We are also delighted to see Aer Lingus strengthen its transatlantic services next year. This comes on the back of an excellent summer season this year on transatlantic, which saw up to 40% increases in month-over-month passenger numbers at Shannon.”
